Let's boycott all school threads outside of Education

Honestly guys we are getting a kicking on other threads. We repeatedly have to explain our contracts, holidays, why we are not doing more online, why we should be doing less on ...... it is never ending. So far we have been off for the Easter break plus a max of two weeks. There is a lot of the population that do not need childcare. We are open for key worker children but that gets ignored. All the social distancing issues are ignored. All the ppe requirements are ignored. Now it could be that the trolls just see us as an easy target, hence all the forlough calls. So as a union member, I am requesting that teachers do not have to explain themselves on other threads as we are just fueling the fire. (I have been guilty of this).

So I am calling for a union boycott!

Welcome to our new colleagues!

Our staff inset is being run using Teams and is not without it’s funny moments. So far we have had three fucks, an couple arguing, couple of crying children, laughing children, stroppy husband and someone has wet their pants! Is going to be a good day

*Oh dear. Wet pants. Eek. This is why online lessons would not work in a lot of schools.

I think we are the only school not setting work on Teams.* Shock

Flimflamfloogety · 20/04/2020 10:03

I'm not a teacher but just wanted to add a voice of solidarity.

Such is the way of life that the negative noise is always the loudest. The vast majority of parents have only the utmost respect for you. From my own experience homeschooling in lock down you guys deserve a massive raise.

Majority of us realise you are doing what you can with the resources available, and that many of you are still going into work to allow key workers children to go to school (putting yourselves at risk). We also understand that many of you have your own families to take care of too.

The Times (bastard bastarding bastards) reporting today that 'only' 35% of pupils are accessing live or recorded lessons, again behaving as if this is the Gold Standard. This does not mean that the other 65% are not getting taught!

Quentin Letts is sneering at his daughter's fee paying school meantime for setting work and trumpeting how much he pays in fees while claiming they are emotionally blackmailing his daughter to do it by saying she won't het her results. If this is true,Quentin, take it up with the effing school.

So fed up of the Times at the moment. They are the source being uses for info for much of the right wing teacher bashing that goes on on MN and elsewhere. Everyone openly distrusts the Daily Mail, but The Times must Speak Truth.

Piggywaspushed · 20/04/2020 10:34

Thank you flimflam

We don't use Teams. we are Google Classroom . DH is teams. Google is much simpler to use.

I can't attend meetings anyway as my laptop blocks Google Meet. What a shame.

Piggywaspushed · 20/04/2020 10:36

I am still trying to lay flowers to silence the self appointed Queen of teacher bashers. I feel like that guy in front of the tank in Tianamen Square. Got my wee carrier bag, got my flowers.

LolaSmiles · 20/04/2020 10:37

Brilliant image there piggy

Who is this monstrous twuntola?

You can express it as an acrostic if the MN rules on troll-hunting abide. Or expressive mime.

TubereuseNordlys · 20/04/2020 10:45

That thread kept crashing on me, Piggy. I like to think my laptop is sentient and looking after my mental health Grin

Piggywaspushed · 20/04/2020 10:46

Oh, I think you will know.

RigaBalsam · 20/04/2020 10:46

We just set work on our online register system.

Well done Piggy.

Piggywaspushed · 20/04/2020 10:58

to ne honest, I find the one teacher basher quite amusing and we get on OK. It's the legion of new ones springing form everywhere who presumably once had better things to do that is overwhelming. I am so glad we have begun our Union/Support Group/ Protest Movement OP.

I find when DH annoys me now, I lay imaginary flowers. Working on this level of zen with DS1.

Mistressiggi · 20/04/2020 11:06

That is so funny Smile (Imaginary flowers)
I find the threads are less provoking with the solidarity of our union behind us Wink
Though I am starting to get a bit worried about what the union fees will be...

Appuskidu · 20/04/2020 11:07

Nice work finishing that thread, guys Flowers.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 20/04/2020 11:43

@Flimflamfloogety - thank you for supporting us

@Mistressiggi - This special staff association is run on a no-fee basis and the only rule is that it supports the mental well being of our members in a positive way.

@Appuskidu @Piggywaspushed - report and flowers all the way. I think MN are getting fed up of my reports but .....

trying to shut down discussion of a public sector service just doesn't seem right to me.

No one is doing this. Teachers have repeatedly, patiently explained the facts and the fact there are unknowns. The fact that the school were struggling for staffing reasons before closure and will struggle if expected to follow SD guidance especially without ppe.

It was repeatedly ignored. Individuals just want their own kids back in, no awareness of the bigger picture. And an increasing excuse for teacher bashing.

On the first day after school closure was announced, I over heard mums in a park asking if "teachers were going to be having a jolly then..."

Any time I’d have laboriously typed out a response to a shitty teacher bashing post I’m just putting a flower instead. Much better for my mental health and probably taken as much notice of.

Teachers are not on MN to provide sport for bored posters, or a punching bag for people whose frustrations should be directed elsewhere.

Or posters could stop baiting, goading or bashing teachers all of which are against the talk guidelines.

Or just RTFT and not continually ask the same questions over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.

noblegiraffe · 20/04/2020 12:37

No. This is a show of solidarity.

Appuskidu · 20/04/2020 12:37

I wish people would not come onto the staffroom threads when they are just complaining about us.

bettybattenburg · 20/04/2020 12:39

Flowers needed here too then!

JimmyGrimble · 20/04/2020 12:51

user nobody is shutting anything down, the flowers are a way of saying we’ve had enough of the accusations ... this is not our fault. These are for you Flowers
