Anyone seen this? I saw this screenshot on twitter but haven’t been able to find the actual story.

@pirateparker

I don't think this will be the new way. I think parents will see what a shit show it is and be begging for schools to open.

RigaBalsam · 20/04/2020 08:48

Thanks all

NeurotrashWarrior · 20/04/2020 08:51

They've developed a new QCA curriculum.

The amount of time teachers waste on reinventing the wheel at the same time as thousands of others is phenomenal.

However, there is a possibility that some pupils who have underlying illnesses are out of school for a very long time so I suppose this will plug that gap for them, especially "when" schools go back as "normal" but before any vaccine etc.

Ha Ha NeurotrashWarrior!

Computing/Computer Science.

I would love things on binary, logic, networking, computational thinking, algorithms or ‘inside a computer’ for Secondary (and for my own primary aged DC, something appropriate) but I’ve pretty much been working on my own remote learning resources for these over Easter anyway, so it’s not too much bother but shows it’s still not hugely valued by ‘those on high’ yet Grin
Still, I’d rather nothing than something with errors in, it seems!

Although I would rather chew off my own arm than go back to the old ICT National Strategy that I was subjected to, when I first started teaching! Grin

I've just watched part of the Year 3 history video (Norman Conquest) taken by a headteacher in Pimlico (who looks very young to be a head but never mind). She had a strange habit of smiling after every sentence in a forced kind of way, she looks quite uncomfortable, poor thing.

The reading quiz was a bit strange, I can imagine that being the first thing a year 3 child does and being disheartened they didn't get it all right.

But you know what? I'm a bit jealous. I'd love to be providing these kind of lessons for my class. I wish we had the tech and go ahead from the head to do lessons like this. Sad I miss teaching.

RigaBalsam · 20/04/2020 08:58

Problem with the science stuff is that they've started right at the start of the course so cells for year 9. Ok if all you're doing is revision but we've got to carry on from where we got to

Agree I am watching the Photosynthesis lesson.

noblegiraffe · 20/04/2020 09:00

some people decided to self appoint themselves as experts and make some cash out of this

The teachers involved weren’t paid anything and they worked like crazy over the Easter holidays putting it together. Daffodil

They did. But there is still a mistake and nowhere to flag it up...

NeurotrashWarrior · 20/04/2020 09:14

Humble apologies Nobel; I was jumping to conclusions after another comment.

I've seen some of that happening at a low level recently, and am feeling especially jaded.

NeurotrashWarrior · 20/04/2020 09:16

Ah yes Chloe, that was v dry. As was the art.

And the ict went out of date within a year, every year!

Grasspigeons · 20/04/2020 09:16

NeurotrashWarrior - i hope something is developed for children out of school from this idea. My DS was out of school for the whole of year 4 whilst a specialist placement was found. Everyone in his special school class had big gaps in their education like. Theres no advice or guidance for parents of how to educate whilst waiting. And all your energy is put into dealing with the LEA. If i'd had access to something like this it would have improved my life so much and made returning to school easier.
I think i will wait for teething issues to pass before giving it a go!

MaybeDoctor · 20/04/2020 09:18

I left teaching in 2010, having reinvented so many wheels that I could have opened an imaginary branch of Kwik Fit...

Ten years on the issue is still not sorted out and teachers are still buckling under the workload of individual planning.

Perhaps this could be the beginning of a way forward?

Piggywaspushed · 20/04/2020 09:19

Oh neuro you mentioned Michael Rosen and now I am worried about him again. I am so anxious. He went into hospital on April 5th. Family asked for some peaceful time away from twitter and said they would update and nothing since.

I love Michael Rosen Sad

Piggywaspushed · 20/04/2020 09:20

Trouble is maybe, I am bit precious and actually like my own resources. I think in particular a lot of English teachers revolt against homogeneity in teaching. But sharing nicely is a good idea and some teachers hoard their own resources too much.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 20/04/2020 09:25

I was just wondering how he was last night.

The phonics is going to be a difficult one to get right. I think they’ve pitched about right. It’s not perfect but not sure where else they could have started.

tapdancingmum · 20/04/2020 09:35

I can't log in. My preschool is there but it tells me there is a problem after I've put my details in. I'm actually furloughed but would like a sneaky peek as to what they have for early years. Will have to try later or sign up as a parent.

NeurotrashWarrior · 20/04/2020 09:45

The QCA were all pretty dry but good if you lacked the deeper subject knowledge. Plus it gave a continuity across schools. They weren't curriculum but so many used them that a lot of the online stuff was aligned.

Anyway, it shall be interesting to see how this develops.

NeurotrashWarrior · 20/04/2020 09:53

Grass I'm sorry to hear that. I hope he has a suitable placement now?

This will be potentially be useful for pupils with autism who are academically able but for whom school is a stressful place.

NeurotrashWarrior · 20/04/2020 09:53

Piggy, I knew he was ill, but hadn't seen any more. Extremely sad and worrying. Sad

Just a bit of feedback before I forget-just tried the lessons for Reception on my child and have been impressed (no quizzes for that age group which is sensible).

I liked the content and the teachers were very good (my DD liked Mrs Hughes!) and the best thing was it held a 4 year olds’ attention whilst I could work and focus on my students.
Her school have been great and worksheets etc. are fab but most things have needed me with her, so have put off until afternoon or weekend and let her CBeebies it, whilst I work. Hopefully won’t need to now!

Sending a virtual FlowersWineCake to the teachers there, for giving up their time this Easter. Much appreciated!

bettybattenburg · 20/04/2020 13:08

Last I heard was that Michael Rosen was out of intensive care. I went on Twitter over the weekend and David Attenborough was trending, I hardly dared click on his name.

BreathlessCommotion · 20/04/2020 13:11

@NeurotrashWarrior actually my biggest concern is that stuff like this will be used as an excuse not to make suitable adjustments for my academically able ASD child. Lots of these children want to be in a school, with peers.
