Good. Hope England follow.

I’m not a teacher, but of course they should! Children, teachers and families all need time to recover from this. I also think they need to grant frontline nhs some leave in addition to their usual entitlement to spend time with loved ones.

This should be the end of school term holiday fines. Clearly attendance doesn't matter that much

Completely disagree with this. Especially judging by the many many posts on MN recently.

Seriously?! That's your thought on why children might be missing school hours right now?!

Attendance undoubtedly matters.
But health matters more.

I do hope they do keep the holidays as planned. Teachers at both my kids’ schools are in daily. Setting and marking work. We have had an email today to ask how many key workers need to send their kids over Easter. So teachers have to work through that holiday too. (And I bet they won’t be paid overtime either.)

Wales also announced that they are looking to have a cohesive view for the nation for the distance learning, so that will be interesting. We have the hwb online platform, but aren't using it to set work at the moment as the kids use google mail etc in school instead of their hwb stuff.

Even if they didn't happen as normal officially, but restrictions on movement were lifted, there would be load of kids not in. Parents will be taking them to see relatives, to have a holiday and so on.

If the reason for keeping going through the summer was to make up for lost learning, that 'benefit' would be lost through absence. Just more 'growing gap' opportunities!

I disagree with holiday fines, but this isn’t really the point.
