Interesting that they say teachers shouldn’t be marking work. My school isn’t expecting it but we seem to be in a minority of those that I know.

fuckweasel · 22/03/2020 23:26

I picked up on that too. It took me five hours today to set work for six classes. No idea how long it will take to mark online. I think we need to evaluate at the end of this week!

I'm at an independent so small class sizes. It is taking me aaages just to download the work, which is mostly in the form of single page photographs. I can't imagine doing this with normal class sizes! We were supposed to be using Firefly but it keeps crashing.

I saw the marking thing yesterday. Hard to raise this with my HOF though. Unions need to make sure this is widely known

What constitutes marking though?

Is NEU guidance the same?

fuckweasel · 24/03/2020 14:51

I can't see anything on the NEU website. The NASUWT is by far the most detailed guidance I can see. I'm coping ok with the marking but that's only because I teach in a tiny school with tiny classes (I teach less than 60 pupils overall)! I can imagine with bigger classes and in some other subjects (English?) it would not be sustainable.

Yes, I'm English. They have to watch out for the overloading of core subjects I would have thought, plus protecting year 11 and 13 staff form doing nay additional work after the days the school closed. It may be a reaction to the schools who claimed they were going to bring in swathes of kids to work on NEAs and do snap mocks perhaps.

A head (not mine!) literally told me working with kids is safe 'because they are asymptomatic so they won't cough' !! Where does one begin...?

I'm in Scotland and lots of schools were planning on doing this! Until on Sunday it was announced that this was not allowed to happen under any circumstances. As a result, any coursework not already submitted earlier in the month is not going to be marked.

We are setting self marking tests based on last week's learning.

Recording their scores but nothing more.
