School still not requested references

Should I be worried?

I got offered the job a month ago. They didn’t request references beforehand and when I got offered the post I asked them to wait until I had spoken to my manager out of courtesy so they wasn’t surprised to see a job reference in their inbox.

A week after I’d let my job know and all was ok so I let the school know they could proceed.

I’ve since been and completed DBS and health stuff with HR and had a written provisional offer but my manager keeps asking me for an update as they are saying they haven’t received a reference request.
Obviously my current job need to know how much longer they have me for work purposes.

I feel this is really strange for a school to delay like this and I’m getting worried they may not want me now. Also doesn’t help with this coronavirus stuff as I’m wondering if they want one less person on there payroll
.

My dbs has come through so really I should be arranging a starting date now but I’ve not heard a thing.

I have called and I don’t get a call back. Any advice?

Tbh schools are a bit busy at the moment with dealing with panicked parents and planning for closures so it’s entirely possible you’ve just fallen to the bottom of the list of things to do.

When were you expecting to start?

Hopefully mid April after Easter.

Guessing though schools may be closed after Easter from what I’ve seen and read online.

It sounds to me like they are reconsidering the offer if they suspect they are going to be closed.

@polarfrogs you mean reconsider the job offer completely? Why would they do that. There will still be a need once this is all said and done Confused
