Has anyone left a safe post in an outstanding school...

... For a promoted post in an RI school? I've been a HoD and SLE and ELT for 10 years at an Outstanding Academy. The person in charge of T and L is great, but they are comfortable and won't be going any where for at least five years. Job has come up in the Ri school 0.4 miles down the road. This will slash my 1hr commute to 2 minutes. Is the jump from outstanding to RI hard? I've had one experience of SLE work in an Inadequate school but it was taken over by our benign MAT so I knew the systems. Any experiences gratefully read!

RI school is 0.4 miles down the road and will slash your commute from 1hr to 2mins?
I don't see how that works.
However...
0Do you really want to live so close to the school in a senior position?
Are you in need of money promotion)?

I would definitely do it, for the commute alone!
Your experience of the outstanding school will surely be really helpful in the RI school. It won’t be RI forever and you’d be able to contribute to making it better. Assuming the rest of SLT are good.

I would look round and see if it's RI on its way to good or RI on its way to inadequate. That would decide it for me.

@OtherVoicesOtherRooms I think it means new school would be 0.4 miles from her home whereas current school much further from home, rather than meaning New school is 0.4 miles from old school. Hence commute time from 1 hour to current school vs 2 mins to new school.

Little
You're right! I read 0.4 miles down the road (from current school) ... my brain has turned to mush. Must be the stress of working in my RI school 😄😳😅

Meet the rest of slt and decide whether you think they’re any good and you could work with them.
Are they RI in all areas?

Fredthefrog · 02/03/2020 07:28

RI is hard work and lots of scrutiny. Depending on how recent the RI is there may be a lot of upset and anger so might be uncomfortable for a while. Could be great though. Definitely meet the SLT and see if your teaching ideology matches

Thanks all. RI in all areas, yes. Suffered from lacklustre sponsors in the past. Newish sponsor has made some inroads. Latest inspection acknowledges work already done but it isn't enough hence SLT adverts. I agree about not living in catchment too. Food for thought!
