Whether you're a permanent teacher, supply teacher or student teacher, you'll find others in the same situation on our Staffroom forum.

I really think I'm done now.

Horrendously behaved children with no manners. Zero support from SLT who seem to be scared of both the pupils and their parents. Staff morale is so low, I can't remember the last time I went into the staffroom and someone wasn't in tears. Oh and this is in a 'nice' area. Just emotionally exhausted with it all, so it looks like this is it for me.

Tom Fecking Bennett may have something to answer to.

The situation in FE is dire, teachers with 10, 20, 30 years experience being managed out. New trainees doing four days teaching and one day PGCE for 18K a year.

5 min lesson plan gets you a disciplinary, seven A4 pages to a lesson plan get you a good, even if all students fail.

I had the highest pass rate in the college, but was useless because I challenged SLT on their rather abysmal behaviour policy.

I'm really glad I left teaching.

The public narrative is that behaviour is no longer an issue in schools. It’s so pervasive that teachers are reluctant to speak up about their own issues because the tendency is to blame the teacher and ask them what they’re doing about it.

You’ve met some of the leadership team at my school then?!

The way behaviour management is done at our place is via the Head of Year system. One KS3 year group in particular is extremely difficult, noted across the school. The HoY doesn’t teach any of them, as he teaches a subject only taught at A level. Everytime I’ve had an issue with them and I’ve reported problems it’s been turned around on me. My tutor group are from another very tricky year group at the school. That HoY is very supportive, understands my form are a nightmare and supports me every which way he can.

Behaviour management is exhausting, and I feel so much for the lovely, hardworking and motivated kids who are keen to learn and excellent company, as all my time is taken up dealing with minor annoyances and low level disruption or full scale fighting in the corridors.

Well said Noblegiraffe
Our LA won't allow exclusions and if the HT queries this she is told that the child is behaving like this because the school isn't meeting their needs.
We can't meet them because of "inclusion".They are in our schools with no money to provide ths support and help they need. And it's just going to get worse Angry

Sympathy's.
Dd was at an Ofsted outstanding school and was bullied badly. Teachers were definitely scared of the kids and parents and we ended up having to take her out
Parents seem to think their kids can do no wrong and I often think about how hard it must be for teachers
