Returning to teaching after maternity

Just wanted to check that when I return to my post after maternity, if I want to be paid over summer holidays is there a set amount of days I need to return for in the summer term or can I return on last day of term?

There’s no set date. You can return on the first day of the summer holidays if you wish. I did the last week of the summer term and that was really useful for getting myself sorted for September.

Thank you everyone. I hoped that was the case and I couldn’t see anything in our maternity policy stating anything different, but didn’t want to assume and work say no as it would put me in a pickle with childcare as it’s in place from September x

This. Though sometimes it's handy to do the last couple of days of term as you probably won't have a class and can just potter about getting yourself sorted. Depends if you have the childcare to do it.

I was told by my head I couldn't come back for the last two days of term as it wouldn't be fair on my maternity cover. I now realise this was illegal of her and I'm still angry 6 years on!

I did the last 2 weeks before summer and it was really helpful! Also eased going back to work knowing I had the summer off to look forward to!

I did 3 days last time and will do a week this time. More this time because I'm broke!
