Interview please help I’m a nervous wreck

I’ve got an interview coming up and I’m really worked up. I go blank at the thought of interviews and a nervous wreck in them! Could you give me pointers on what to say for questions such as the ones below and any other questions you can get asked. I haven’t done any type of interview for well over 10 years so my questions I’m thinking they’ll ask might be outdated!

Q1) why this school?
Q2) what can you offer this school
Q3) this one I struggle with most explain a difficult lesson you had and how you tackled / overcame the difficulty
Q4) any questions for us

I’ve really lost my confidence over the years. I was in a school environment where everyone was bullied and “informal Capabilities” were handed around to almost everyone at dome point. I haven’t worked for 3 years so this adding to my nerves.

I know the headteacher of the new job interview in some capacity and feel this headteacher does not like me (probably my low self esteem at the moment). I also get very nervous around this headteacher I’m more worried about handling my nerves during the interview and not letting the cold stares throw me off.

Is TheoGryff still going on the TES advice pages? She used to have brilliant advice for interviews.

There’ll be some questions about the lesson they observe, possibly:

  • how do you think your lesson went?
  • how do you know?
  • what would you do in the lesson after this one if it was your own class?

There’ll be at least one safeguarding one:

  • what would you do if...? (Correct answer is always “tell the designated safeguarding lead”)

Then the more unpredictable ones:

  • best lesson?
  • something gone wrong?
  • working with others?
  • favourite book?
  • why this school?
  • how do you ensure all pupils are making progress?

When is it?

Thank you! I don’t know exact day yet as agency left a voicemail and I couldn’t get through. So will find out tomorrow!

What are the latest buzz words in teaching? When I was teaching previously it was all to do with AFL (assessment for learning) is this still the main focus or has teaching focus moved on?

I’m sorry, I don’t remember the last time I heard AFL mentioned. I guess the ideas are still there but they’re not identified as AFL.

Which subject, and age group?
