HLTA job after teaching

I've been shortlisted for a HLTA post at my DCs school. 2 days a week. I've done ppa cover as a teacher before but had to leave that school for various reasons. Ppa cover is what I enjoy most as it's varied, less paperwork and pressure than job share. I can't work full time for health reasons. Working at my DCs school would mean no commute and no need for a childminder as on my meeting day DH would pick them up.

Has anyone made this move and enjoyed the work life balance? I'm not fussed about not having my own class really. I'd rather be in charge of the class than a TA working with small groups.

Also, yes the pay is crap but I'm not working currently so something is better than nothing and we'll manage OK.

I do this & really enjoy it. I work hard when I'm in school but dont get in until 830 & leave at bang on 330 every day! Nice balance.

That's great @Orpingtonmum44 do you mark work or leave it for the teacher?

My DC go to the infant and junior school (same site). Do you think they would be allowed to hang around with me before/ after school for half an hour? I don't want to ask this at interview as maybe it's not the done thing?

So the school I'm in has very sensible marking policies lots of peer assessment so I just generally have to do a quick tick & flick.its not expected but I like to to help the teachers out. If they're able to sit quietly with a book etc I dont see how that could be a problem? Do you know any other teachers or TAs who have kids at the school maybe be guided by what they do? Good luck Flowers

Thank you. I'm sure I've seen other kids of teachers around. As long as they are signed in as per fire policy it should be OK. I can't afford a childminder on HLTA pay!
