Utterly fed up - behaviour from students

So today, I found that a group of students went through my bag in order to move stuff (think objects into pockets). I’m so fed up. No-one seems to care about the fact that this was done as nothing apparently is stolen . This is supposedly a nice school 🤨 I’ve been threatened, insulted and now this. I just feel so disillusioned - why on earth are children behaving like this and why is it more more important to appease parents (no video evidence of this being done) than to keep staff safe and happy?! Urgh. I just feel so deflated this evening.

Sometimes I think that appeasing parents is the way to keep staff safe and happy, if that makes sense.

That’s a really weird thing to do. And a total violation. I’d be so upset about a student going through my bag.
Are the students denying it? What have slt said?
I’d go to my union if slt did nothing. You should have to put up with that sort of shit at work.

My local union rep (none in the school) is utterly useless. The perspective is that it can’t be proved so they can’t be punished and the little darlings are going to get away with it.

I worked in a place like that. Soul destroying. Time to find a new post?

I didn’t see them; the troglodytes did it (god knows how) in the one time I left my room today. It also wouldn’t matter in my school - I was threatened by a student and they got away with it as it couldn’t be ‘proven’. My word as a teacher doesn’t count.

There was a news piece on the radio about workers rights to feel safe and respected in the workplace. I don't know why schools as employers seam to think they dont have to meet workers rights.

Maybe the same school. I was threatened. But the Head claimed the slang the kid used meant “ignore her”. He asked the kid’s friend. So of course the little shit didn’t say it meant hit the female member of staff when she’s cornered and alone.

A school where SLT are useless and don’t back up staff isn’t a ‘nice school’.

‘Naice’ area tho. I’ve realised over the years that this just means children ruling the roost because SLT are terrified of the parents.

Ah noble but the parents will think it is. Their feathers are never ruffled and their darlings are never punished. For anything.

What struck me was you saying your word as teacher doesn't count.
A few years back, a consultant in my hospital could give a police statement if he'd been attacked by a patient and it would be taken seriously.

This week we had a violent, racist patient have all charges dropped because the security guard turned on his body cam after the initial incident - he legally has to state "i an now filming" or similar words. So the initial incident wasn't on film so despite the Doctor and security guards being witnesses, it wasn't enough as it was "their word versus the patient". Bonkers.

A couple of years ago on the last day of term the kids at my old school were helping the teachers move textbooks between classrooms as we were having some building work done. I was elsewhere and some year 9/10s were unsupervised in my classroom. I went upstairs and my room was an absolute tip and they’d stolen two boxes of chocolates out of gift bags on my desk, ripped them open, eaten them all and strewn wrappers over my desk.

I reported to the head and deputy. They laughed and said it wasn’t serious and someone must have done it as a joke.

I left the following year.

At the same school a child took my phone out of my desk drawer and tried to break the code on it. Just appalling behaviour that was totally dismissed.

This was a private school btw. Appalling.

How utterly shit for you. I don’t even let my own kids go through my bag!! Agree with what others are saying about ‘nice’ school. Before taking my current job I canvassed opinion from some parents I know. They said they were ‘not too sure’ about the behaviour policy’ as it’s ‘very harsh’. At this point I got interested in the job as the policy sounded robust and not open to negotiation by defensive parents!

If SMT don't have your back, I'd be actively looking for a different post. How demoralising and insulting.
