Whose kids can do no wrong/never need to be sanctioned.
I’m so sick of parents telling me I’m unreasonable for telling off their precious little angel.
Driving me totally crazy!
Just had a really defensive mum on the phone who has decided to complain about me punishing her child.
Aaaarrrgghhh.
I’m sure she’s perfectly nice but I need a rant because the phone call really got my adrenaline going.
Sympathy needed please.

Kids won’t learn to accept responsibly if parents keep butting in. My mother would’ve given me a clip round the ear when I got home.

DS school allow appeals, which they have to do themselves and gives reflection time to both parties. They are only allowed 3 appeals a months though.

I’m trying to help these kids learn to behave like civilised human beings and it seems their parents don’t want that for them!
I don’t know why I bother sometimes.

I got told to fuck off repeatedly by a mum the other day for telling her precious daughter had skipped lessons. I was apparently a fucking liar and a fucking moron for wasting her time. Delightful. She is not allowed to contact me now and any skipped lessons are passed on to the assistant principal. Her daughter is equally as delightful and I almost feel sad for her. How can you possibly grow into a nice human when that is your example

Yes - after confrontation with a parent I always come away with so much more sympathy for the kid.

Parents like that are the reason my Dad (sick health retired in 1999 from primary school teaching) had so many issues. One threatened to knock him out in a classroom full of kids for sending little Jimmy to stand outside the classroom door for stabbing the kid next to him with pens. We had to go ex-directory back then because of parents ringing us at night to talk about their kids.

One man had a school refusing daughter and told (yes, told) my Dad he had to pick the girl up from her home every morning in his car to ensure she got to school every day. He refused - beyond inappropriate. That led to months of harassment by the parent who said it was his fault she didn't have an education. She wasn't even in his class.

Oh the list goes on, and clearly nothing much changes.

They start as they mean to go on! I teach at a university and one of my students brought her mum in to complain!

I used to work as a uni lecturer (not UK) and had parents complain about exam results and call up for us to halt lectures because their angels were running late.

I really, really wish I was joking. My mental health improved instantly when I moved on to another kind of work. You all have my sympathy.

I'm not a teacher but my mum was and ran for the hills the minute I left uni! Just to say I agree with you (I'm in the playground gritting my teeth together away from the cliques and their precious feral offspring). My kids know in school teachers rules are teachers rules and what they say goes and if they end up in trouble with them i will then take away an activity/treat for that week in addition to what the teachers impose. I may not inwardly agree but outwardly will always support the teacher. Thankfully that seems to have scared them enough into being utter angels for the teachers.

How things change

and for you. The term has really started with a bang, hasn’t it? Our kids have come back from Christmas completely bonkers and parents are not helping at all. I’m a fucking moron and a bloody liar, too.

Total sympathy here! I had a completely batshit parental complaint by email a couple of years ago when I issued a totally reasonable sanction to her child who had done fuck-all work for weeks. Unfortunately I checked my email in the evening and it ruined the evening for me.

Precious child became even lazier when he realised that his mum was onside. Well done that parent.

My mum rang my university tutor to complain once, I'm still mortified about it 30 years later

Both my kids are now at Secondary school and I am less aware than when they were are primary but it has been the biggest shock of parenting how PRECIOUS and ENTITLED some parents are about their kids!

My kids respect their teachers!

So many parents are unreasonable and want their children to live the life they wish they had had as kids

Sometimes I feel that the worst part of being a teacher is having to deal with parents who refuse to accept that their children aren't the angels they believe them to be.

Do parents really say that to you? I'm flabbergasted. Unless there was an absolutely clear safeguarding issue or dc was distraught because of teacher's action or comments (which has never happened to either child) I wouldn't dream of questioning their actions. I am aware that children exaggerate (lie) and only yesterday DS2's lovely teacher contacted me to say he was unwell so I hot footed it up to school to find he was perfectly well but a bit upset with his friends (in fairness he is quite sensitive and reasonably mature about things) and had symptoms (in my opinion) of anxiety etc. I took him home and talked it through and when he went in today I chatted to his teacher and we are on the same page. She thought he might not be physically unwell but was afraid she would miss him being genuinely ill. I have reminded him of the story of Peter and the Wolf.

I opened this thread hoping for juicy gossip on teachers shagging parents. Disappointed.

Hah! Just had a conversation with my DM who is a retired teacher about parents who excuse really bad behaviour with “But Devilspawn is so bright, he is just not being stretched, I think a lot of it is just boredom” etc. I have friends I love dearly, but they do this about their eldest. It has done the child no favours, of course.
It can’t be the parents’ fault, that is too shaming and scary. So it has to be yours, dear teachers.

I can totally understand your frustration. I must be old school, because if my children are in trouble I'm on them first about what it is they've done. However having been married to a man who's mother would constantly claim everything was 'an accident', I can see how kids grow up with no sense of responsibility. You have my utmost respect, I couldn't do your job but am very grateful for the effort teaching staff put in.

I spent over an hour yesterday dealing with a 5 page A4 typed complaint letter about the school. Senior management in a Primary School and having to respond to a parent that's pissed off she got a letter that was squint on the paper, and that's just a start of the petty complaints.

The "so bright" thing gives me the RAGE. Ds1 is at Oxford studying maths. It's fair to say that he was very much better at maths than his entire class, throughout the whole of primary school. He still behaved beautifully and I still expected him to.

I'm the total opposite. If my kids have done wrong, I punish them. I'm the first to hold up my hands to both the teachers and the parents of any other kids involved. My youngest - only 8, is a right hot-head at times. She's like a ticking time bomb. She will take take take of the usual playground antics until she finally snaps, and it's a bad snap. Full on fisticuffs. Whilst I don't condone fighting, I do take a balanced approach with both the teachers and parents as to what caused the situation. Some parents just aren't like that. We have around 3 perfect parents in my class, and actually their kids are little divas who call children awful names. They'd never admit that though.
