Pre booked holidays

My teaching job finished at the end of last term and I am beginning to look at fixing up a new part time job for the new year (I do long term supply directly for schools). My previous school will probably be in touch in the new year if they have anything available but I am also looking at other options - but at present I am not working.

I would like to book a holiday for later in the year and I am wondering if it is reasonable to book something in term time? I don't know yet which if any days I might be working but do I have to stick to holidays anyway - the difference of course is £££.

Does the pre exisiting holiday rule apply to teaching?

We have supply teachers who only work until June then go off on cheap holidays, their classes are covered more easily as Y11 and Y13 have left.

This might be more acceptable than expecting a holiday mid-term.

That’s assuming secondary!

I'm wondering much the same but on a slightly different basis. We've got a holiday booked for term time (next month), which was booked over a year ago. My current school are completely fine with it, but I'm now looking to change jobs and there's a chance the two will meet. Suppose I'll find out soon enough.

OP, you could book for the week before or after half-term and say you thought it was half-term?

I think before you start a job is when you have the most power and stand your ground over things like this so I'd say yes go ahead and book. And enjoy your well deserved holiday!
