Returning to teaching

I've been out of teaching for 5 years. Before that I'd qualified and completed 3.5 years all in Early Years.
I'd love to return at some point and am currently volunteering in KS2 (Early Years trained so was glad to get more experience)
Now, my issue is I have no confidence anymore. I also feel i have big gaps in my experience having only taught Early Years, mainly Nursery.
How do I even go about addressing this? I feel like I could get the information I need for planning the curriculum easily but teaching in KS1 or KS2 is going to be completely different. Where do you begin?

Well, the fact you are volunteering, surely answers your problem.
Ask at the school you are at.
Let the staff know you are looking to get back into teaching but want to build up the breadth of your experience.
Ask them to show you how they plan, what they work from, etc.
Ask if you can volunteer in more than one class - be that doing 2 x half days or doing 1/2 a term in one and then 1/2 a term in another.
Make yourself really helpful and then they will be happy to give you some time back.

Yes, you're right. They seem happy with everything I've been doing and I do go in for extra activities if possible. I'll definitely let them know I'd like to get back into teaching and the suggestion of alternating classes is a good one.
Thanks, I think I'm overthinking because I'm nervous to feel completely out of my depth.

Is there a reason you don't want to return to early years?

I'm more than happy to return to Early Years, I just know how much staff are moved about and as it stands I'd feel completely out of my depth being moved to KS1 or 2.
