Learning walks, full written reports, assessments and exams to mark. All due before Christmas. And the first couple of weeks back too. Loads of cover and duties is the norm and lots of extra things we are just ‘expected’ to do. I’ve never worked anywhere like this! Pretty fed up as I have a lot on my plate at home as well. I’m meant to be part time, but that’s a joke! I’m working so much whilst in school that I’m loath to do any more on my day off. Anyone else feeling fed up?

I hear you! My goodwill is quickly evaporating.

I was really struggling last year. I moved to a school that takes workload seriously and it has made such a difference. I still work hard, but I have evenings and work-free weekends. It has made me realise there is a big thing of, we have to do all this for the kids and teachers are guilt tripped into working insane hours at the detriment to our own mental health and families. But actually I am a much better teacher now.

Tell me about it. Assessments, writing moderations, Christmas fetes, observations, learning walks, planning days, Christmas parties, pantomimes, Christmas dinners... I’m exhausted.

Look for a different job.

Different school, sorry-the problem is not you but poor management.
