Shouting in the classroom

I volunteer in my children's class and today the 3 form infants were practicing the nativity.
2 out of the 3 teachers were really shouting at some of the children.
One child visibly jumped and then looked petrified of the teacher 1. Teacher 2 was being nasty when a child was sobbing, the sort of crying when your gasping/crying becomes a reflex.
Shouting at them for not 'acting', speaking loud enough, the list goes on. It wasn't just regular shouting but had a vitriolic tone. Teacher 3 didn't behave like this but didn't stop it either.

Is this normal in infants these days? I'm sure if the parents had seen the practise, they wouldn't want a nativity.

I hope it's not normal, I'd be questioning if I'd chosen the right school if it was a normal occurance.

Teachers are under enormous pressure, and this is the longest term. Yes those children are only very young, but the teachers are only human!! I hope it wasn’t normal for the teachers to be like that, and from your post the children were as shocked by it as you! Sounds they’re all (pupils AND teachers) tired and strung out.
