Should I tell them now that I'm leaving in August?

I will be leaving my current teaching job at the end of this school year as DH and I are moving to another area and (hopefully) having another baby. Can you think of any reason for me not to tell everyone now?

My instinct is to keep my plans to myself until I have to give notice in case SLT start screwing me over... but how could they even do that really?

While they can’t as regards salary or classes etc, they could freeze you out with an attitude

If you like your school and colleagues then I would tell them earlier rather than later.

There's regularly job vacancies in January/February for the following September and I'd want to give them the best pick of the candidates looking for a change for next academic year.

Nope. Tell them that you've started looking for jobs and why when you've started looking, no point doing so beforehand.

Do you are definitely leaving, then tell them as soon as possible. It will really help them to have time to recruit a good replacement.

Don’t burn any bridges and be absolutely sure that you are going before you write a letter, but if your role is suitable for NQTs then your SLT will really appreciate being able to advertise early. Our trainees are already seeing vacancies for next September and lots of them will have jobs by February half term.
