Maternity pay/holiday pay

Please could someone explain this to me - I'm due my first baby in March next year year. I'll have taken 20 out of my 28 days holiday allowance. I've asked if I can be paid my 8 days on top of my maternity allowance. School have said no, that the holiday will be carried over into the following school year and can be taken during school closure time on my return.

This doesn't make sense to me - surely I will be missing out on 8 days holiday pay? Or am I getting confused?

Are you in a union? Worth asking them perhaps.

Is it because you won't have accrued the days before March?

Mine got carried over and should be paid at end of maternity

Are you a teacher? We do not accrue holiday pay.

What's your role? I'm guessing not a teacher.
