Interview help please! Any Heads who could help?

Hi, I've secured an interview next week for an Assistant Head job (primary, KS1). I didn't expect it to be honest, as I've been rejected so often for even mainscale posts recently, I was at the point of applying to Aldi!! Currently on UPS3 with whole school Maths Lead and EYFS Lead. However, I haven't ever been on the Leadership Scale so this would be a step up.

The information says there will be a data task. I've never had to do anything like this before so obviously I'm a bit anxious. Could anyone give me an idea of what this might be and how to tackle it please?

Anyone had an interview like this? Or any Heads out there who could point me in the direction of where to look? All help would be very much appreciated 😊

Thank you in nervous anticipation 👍

You'll probably be given a data set from either the school or a similar school - you may then be asked some specific questions or asked to identify priorities based on the data.
I was once asked at interview to draw up a mini action plan based on a data set.

Another possibility is being given data and then them asking you to come up with a set of questions from the data - things like 'The trend in Science has been for girls to out perform boys in KS2 - what measures are being out in place to address this?"

I've also seen data tasks where you are asked to look at spending in relationship to results - so how would you prioritise funding based on the data.

At HT level you may get a task where you are given data linked to the budget and asked to make decisions based around this.

Best way to tackle it is to look for obvious anomalies (one group out performing another or under/over performance in one subject area ), look for trends and also look at the results for both Key Stages - are they similar or very different.

Good luck!

Your information was spot on! The task was exactly as you described @Cynisca. No idea of the outcome yet, but I was confident in the data task so thank you 👍👍👍

Glad it was helpful - fingers crossed for you.
Job interviews are so horrible - I bet you are relieved it is over
