Do teachers get head lice?

Is it common for teachers to get head lice?
I'm new to teaching and there's been an outbreak of nits in my school, I've combed my hair and can't find anything (don't know if the itching is because I'm freaking myself out).
Is it an accepted thing that you'll get them at some point?
I work in EYFS and KS1 so the kids are more 'needy' always wanting a cuddle or to sit right next to you.
I know it isn't a 'bad thing' to get them but I remember having to sit for hours and hours every night getting my hair combed when I was a child (and honestly with planning I really don't have the time).

I have very long hair and I wear it down for school. So far so good!! I've worked from nursery to Y2 for the past 7 years.

Yea as @MrsZola said they are plague rats who also seem to love spreading d&v, colds, flu and chickenpox.
Although did find the first two years the worse and picked up everything even with good hand hygiene, more than once. But after that never got ill again whilst working in education 😂 .
Helps if the school also have decent policies in regards to illness. One of my sickness management meetings I was asked how I could improve my health. Stop letting sick kids come in every day and send them home instead. Sickness policies weren't adhered to, well until we were hit by flu and d&v one year 🤣

28 years teaching...had them twice! But I suspect I got them from my own children rather than from school 😂😂

I have been a teacher for over 30 years and have never had nits and no I do not often wear my hair up either.

Luckily my children have never had nits either, don't think I could have coped with nits.

I got them working in a secondary school! 😳

I’ve had them a couple of times.

You won’t need to spend hours and hours having your hair combed through though-just treat them properly with medication from the chemist!
