Hello all ... has anyone transitioned from Nursing to Teaching or is this a case of jumping out of the frying pan & into the fire? After a year in Nursing I’ve come to the realisation that I don’t enjoy it one bit ... please help - I need a way out .....

You've described the worst bits of teaching in the section on what you hate about nursing.

The thing is I’ve felt like this throughout my student journey & most have said stuck with it - it gets better after qualifying but I can’t say I agree even after trying 2 jobs plus a bank care home job....

A know a couple of school nurses who love their jobs though. And used to work with a school nurse who also loved the role, but then loved into paediatric nursing.

My best friend did exactly what you are proposing about 30 years ago. She and I are still teachers but I suppose the changes in schools have crept up a bit more slowly upon us. She teaches in a middle school.

Teaching is mainly about having to be super organised and being good at presenting

PurpleDaisies · 14/10/2019 22:19

what I don’t enjoy about nursing is mostly everything really apart from the time I spend talking to patients.... I don’t enjoy the immense pressure, mounds of paperwork, continuous repetitive training courses, the attitudes of fellow stressed colleagues, it’s a thankless, back breaking job

Substitute “children” for patients and that’s a very accurate description of teaching.

I completely understand why you hate nursing. Can you explain why you’re thinking of teaching though? With the high stress levels and massive retention issues. Why not any other job?

having to be exemplary 24/7

In teaching, you are only ever as good as your last observation, which I have noticed to be nearly always ‘disappointing’ in my colleagues who are over the age of about 48...!
