New job, nearly a month in and no contract

Hello - is this a thing now not giving contracts? Should I push for one (or keep the freedoms not having one might bring?!?) or be worried I haven’t been offered one?

It’s years since I have worked in a school - this wouldn’t have happened where I worked previously so interested in whether it’s common now?

I think the law permits 8 weeks for the issue of a contract but I'm not in HR so could be wrong.
I'm not even sure I was ever issued one, (no HR when I joined) and I've been in my job years.... It's not something I worry about really.

I think it's pretty common not to get contracts. It doesn't make it right though. I've requested a contract and job description for my HOD role and am being ignored.

Doesn’t that mean you could just leave? I would have thought the protection goes both ways!
