When do I find out?

I applied for a job, closing date was Thursday 12th. I haven’t heard anything yet! I assume I should have done by now? I’m guessing that means I’ve been unsuccessful?

I would assume you haven’t got an interview if you haven’t heard by now.

MsJaneAusten · 19/09/2019 07:29

Did it mention interview date in the advert? (If often does)

BrutusMcDogface · 19/09/2019 07:30

That’s what I’m thinking, Pottering. Thanks. Oh well. Don’t want it anyway! Wink

No it didn’t, Jane. I would have thought they’d want to do them ASAP though as it’s a job for this term!

I imagine the interviews have already been. You could ring and ask.

BrutusMcDogface · 19/09/2019 07:45

Oh, really? It’s very bad form not to let me know either way though, isn’t it?

Unfortunately most schools only contact you if you've been shortlisted.

I applied for a teaching job outside of class teaching, thought I had everything they were asking, and no interview. Eventually I emailed to enquire and was rung back immediately: the email inviting me to interview had been sent to the wrong email (by one letter). If I hadn't got in touch, they'd have just assumed I didn't want it anymore.

So I would now always get in touch if I hadn't heard, if I thought I met the job spec perfectly. Not all applicants will and better one person has to spend a couple of minutes finding out than you just assuming you'd been unsuccessful.

Sadly pretty standard in most jobs, I gather, not just reaching.

MyOtherProfile · 19/09/2019 08:08

Or teaching!

BrutusMcDogface · 19/09/2019 09:07

I’ll email them today, then, as it’s been a week. Though I’m not sure if there’s any point as they def have my email address!

How flipping rude if it is protocol not to let people know! I suppose they must have been inundated with applications as it’s a part time post- gold dust.

I once applied to 42 non-teaching jobs in a year. Mind you this was 10 years ago (middle of the credit crunch). I heard not a bean from any of them (other than a few automated emails saying thanks for submitting your application blah blah). It's pretty standard...

When I applied to my current school I heard nothing so, after a week I phoned and asked why as I’d met every single one of the required and desirable points... it was for a subject I was qualified in but they’d decided based on the applications to interview only those who could offer more than one subject. I was disappointed, but accepted that if the other candidates were offering more than me, I couldn’t help it. Anyway, they next day I got a phone call saying one pulled out so they invited me to interview. I got the job, even over an internal candidate.

Three years later, as she retired, the head teacher said she was so, so glad I’d made that call, because it put me on her radar properly.

Anyway, call. It might be as life changing as mine!

Oops- thank you for sharing! Great story Smile I might email on Monday morning. I’m obviously sure I didn’t get shortlisted but it might be worth a try to get some feedback.

I applied for a job in the summer term and didn't hear anything for about ten days. I phoned them to be told they'd sent me an email a couple of days before inviting me to an interview. The email was in my spam folder!!! I went to the interview and got the job. 😀 So, I'd say call them.... Good luck.
