I'm on H8.3 . If I apply for a job at another school advertised at H8, will they start me at H8.1 or can they match the spine point I am on?

I know nothing about support staff pay grades but as a teacher, know there is no pay portability any more for us.

I’m on UPS3 but a subsequent employer wouldn’t have to pay me on that. Now, obviously I would refuse to move for any less, but if you were unhappy or desperate or had a few years out, you aren’t in a good bargaining position.

It would be usual to match your pay. You would raise that at the point you are offered the job. ‘I would like to accept - subject to you hatching my current salary point’

They can, but they don’t have to any more.

They weren't prepared to in my recent interview. The post was two grades lower TA and I am HLTA point 9 I think.

I think it is worth asking if you get the job but as Pottering said 'they don't have to anymore.'

The OP is asking about what happens if appointed to a support staff grade she is already at the top of - normal practice and supply staff pay and conditions would usually mean she goes in at that point. It’s not the same as teachers pay or if she applied for a lower graded support post.
