Letter commending NQT

If I was to write a letter to the HT commending the job our NQT has done this year: 1) is that an ok thing to do? And 2) are there any good things to say particularly that gets brownie points for the NQT? Thanks

Yes, it would be a lovely thing to do.

Are you a parent, or a colleague ?

A letter/ card / e-mail to the HT praising any member of staff is always welcome.

The 2nd question is a bit odd though - surely you would praise her / him for things that have impressed you about their teaching or other aspects of their work, not try to find things that "earn brownie points"

I'm a parent. But regarding the second point. I just wondered if there were particular attributes that look great or help with reviews. Not that I would make up anything, the nqt has been brilliant but wondered if there was anything in particular worth placing emphasis on

How do you know they are an nqt?

This always puzzles me

we always know when ours are NQTs, it is never a secret and is normally also obvious from the fact they get more PPA time in our school (I assume that is standard)

I have written to the head before about teachers I have felt were truly brilliant in their approach and manner etc. I have also written a testimonial to give a teacher before when I really thought she was lovely and she was leaving. I think it is important that people know when they go above and beyond that it is appreciated. and yes you could say that all teachers SHOULD be like that but some really do do things to mark themselves out.

mind I did work in primary schools for many years so perhaps I appreciate it more than many
