Colleague's absence

I cannot find a definitive answer to this. A colleague that I share a class with is absent - I think he is quite ill so I don't know when he will be back. I have seen advice that says that a sick teacher can't be expected to plan lessons when they are absent, but in that case who is expected to do the planning? I am employed for 2.5 days, and at the moment I am having to plan for 5.

Might be quite useful the HT doing some planning - they might see what the rest of us at the chalkface are up against.

But at the very least, your PPA time should be extended. Or you should be paid in lieu.

As a job share I think there are so many expectations. Agree to do it only if you are paid or given time but don't let slt walk all over you. You need to make your views known. Unions would support you with this.

Having done a job share similar to you, when my colleague went off on long term sick leave I took over all the planning but was paid for 3 days during that time. I still only spent my usual time in school (due to childcare) just got an extra half days pay.
I suggest you request similar off your HT. if they say they can't pay, the. Tell them you can't do the planning for someone else. We have supply teachers in who plan BTW.

I think asking for extra PPA/pay for planning is your best solution. It is a lot of work, but you are in the best position to do it. Failing that, it is c.20 days left (not that I am counting!!) project work?? Something you won't need to spend ages planning....hope it works out x
