What is your school doing about May bank holiday next year?

The one that's changing nationally from a Monday to a Friday? My LA have issued a directive asking schools not to change it yet as this may not be convenient for schools. Just thinking this could cause a lot of issues ... though bank holidays were nationally set days?

We've already had to change the GCSE art exam date because of it, so we must be observing it?

Ilikesweetpeas · 20/06/2019 22:07

NinghmareLoon that's the reason the LA have given, that GCSE's may not be able to be changed. None of our children take GCSE's (special school) so that's not an issue for us but all of our children come on buses, I'm assuming the drivers may be regarding the Friday as a bank holiday. It's all a bit confusing! I feel likes it's been quite short notice really

We've had the revised yearly planner..my school are observing it!

Daygals · 20/06/2019 22:23

Our LA have issued a new term calendar with the new date and our head has decreed the Monday an Inset, which will be covered by twilight's so we get a lovely four day weekend. What's more she did quickly before people like centreparcs had realised Grin

CraftyGin · 21/06/2019 05:25

We are having it on the Friday.

Pearlfish · 21/06/2019 05:29

Not a teacher but my DC’s school has issued a new calendar incorporating the changed date.

Arewedone · 21/06/2019 08:08

Ours changed to Friday

PumpkinPie2016 · 21/06/2019 17:11

We are having it on the Friday (secondary) as is my son's primary school.

Surely, at this stage, next year's exam dates are still provisional so can be altered if necessary to accommodate.

NightmareLoon · 21/06/2019 17:38

Actually, all the exam dates are already set by the boards for next year, but there won't be any board scheduled exams that early in the season. (It's stuff like art, drama, and MFL speaking that would be affected.)

Ilikesweetpeas · 22/06/2019 10:22

Just wish we had some clarity one way or the other!!

Yep, ours has changed it to the Friday, too.

I think it's before the actual set in stone exam dates - just the ones which the school can choose the days for may be affected.
