A headteacher job?

Hi!

Any headteachers or deputy's here? Can I pick your brains please?

I'm presuming that it is the head teachers job to decide on which after school clubs your school will offer/provide?

How would you prefer to be contacted to discuss a new activity by an outside agency? An email and follow up phone call? Posted brochure? Recommendation from office manager? Ring and make appointment?

Also, when would you decide on the following year/term after school club? I'm hoping you will say now for September start?!
And are clubs usually agreed for a year or term?

So many emails just get deleted. You have a better chance of my office admin taking a look at a leaflet or speaking to you on the phone. They are the gatekeeper so the trick is to get them to actually tell someone who makes decisions about it. I don’t have time for appointments with outside providers for clubs - sorry!

For a new club, we would trial it for a term based on agreed minimum numbers.

Also will you be renting space in the school for this club? I like the clubs that charge us a set fee to provide and we collect in money from the parents and keep the surplus as the ‘rental charge’. Or we have some that pay a fee to hire the hall then they charge parents directly.

Do you have preferred options of how outside agencies charge? Yes, hiring a hall or classroom I was expecting.

If headteachers are too busy to read random emails I suppose the title should be very attention grabbing?!

The issue with emails is that I get SO many that if they even remotely look like spam/selling then they go in junk.

I’m assuming you have a smallish geographical area to target? A leaflet dropped in personally might work?

You will never succeed with a phone call.

Send a flyer, addressed to the ‘the after-school club administrator ’ or similar.

Seems trickier than I thought to get a headteachers attention!

A couple of schools I worked in had a member of the admin staff who dealt with all bookings and letting. Could be worth finding out who that is first and contacting them directly

Cookery would be very popular in our school, though always depends on cost. Email to main office address and we would get back to you if interested. Whereabouts are you based?

It would be a good idea to call in & drop off some flyers with the office staff & to offer to do a free "taster" session too.

Depends a bit on the size of school, I think. In the small school I work in a chat with the secretary on the phone would be definitely the first port of call.

I'd find out who the curriculum lead is and contact them (D&T for you). I run a science club (primary) so contacted the science lead. This info is usually on the website. Don't bother with the head.

@brownjumper will you be looking for new staff in a year? I'll probably be looking for a new job after maternity. I'm in Kent.
