Exam marking

Is anyone else exam marking atm? This is my sixth year marking the same paper for the same exam board and I’m really struggling. I can’t seem to wrap my head around what the exam board wants (although they aren’t sure, and that’s partly the problem).

I’m marking (3rd Year) but paper isn’t sat until next week. Are you doing A Levels!

Littlelot · 31/05/2019 23:17

Start tomorrow 😭 300 papers. Literature so very subjective. It’s my second year and hoping I might find it easier this year.

GCSE Literature. It’s really tough - the guidelines used to be so clear but now the criteria doesn’t seem to stay the same from one seed to the next! Good luck both - it’s baking my brain unfortunately!

I used to mark GCSE - in the olden days when sacks of scripts were delivered. Went back to it last year with A' Level Lit. Online, of course, but it seems more civilised than GCSE from what I hear from friends who mark.

I'm doing A level Psychology. Just started and struggling to get into it. It's taking ages. Second year of this, but have previously marked GCSE Science back in the olden days of marking actual papers.

GivenchyDahhling · 01/06/2019 18:10

Yes, new spec GCSE Stats - my first year marking, the exam isn’t until the 13th though. My allocation (3500ish units) sounds huge but apparently for maths it isn’t!

kidsmakesomuchwashing · 01/06/2019 18:18

University exam marking for me - luckily I wrote the exam so I know what I'm looking for!

TheFallenMadonna · 01/06/2019 22:37

That would make life easier, certainly!

notmyname1993 · 02/06/2019 06:28

I'm on the other side, just finished marking 28500 reading comp questions from the KS2 SATS. My eyes are permanently square.

Teachermaths · 02/06/2019 09:41

Givenchy I'm doing gcse stats too.

Littlelot · 02/06/2019 14:33

My team leader has text today to say the standardisation papers are now available - I can’t bring myself to open the laptop! Oh the combination of nice weather and marking. Will do it this eve I think!

noblegiraffe · 02/06/2019 14:39

Fallen how on earth have you ended up marking A-level psychology? Not science or maths?!

MaryBerrysBomberJacket · 02/06/2019 14:53

I'm finding it really tough despite this being my 7th year. Marking science and for our levelled questions they are so subjective as to which level it belongs in I feel like I'm marking a different subject. I don't even agree with some of the marks awarded on the standardisation scripts if I use the mark scheme correctly!

TheFallenMadonna · 02/06/2019 14:57

Because I did a degree in Psychology during my (extended) maternity break and I taught it for years alongside the Science and Maths. I am a timetabler's dream!

noblegiraffe · 02/06/2019 17:15

Wow. They must have been gutted to lose you to AP!

TheFallenMadonna · 02/06/2019 18:53

I left lots of small but difficult to fill holes!

liviadrusilla · 03/06/2019 21:06

Marking GCSE for the first time this year - new syllabus so I'm hoping to get my head round what they want! Not looking forward to it.

margotsdevil · 03/06/2019 21:21

Started SQA today. 100 scripts. Hoping the thought will be worse than the reality....

Cat0115 · 04/06/2019 18:41

Marking GCSE Lit as well. 4 mark schemes for one paper. On screen. Luckily lovely team leader. This is going yo be a loooooong month!

TheFallenMadonna · 09/06/2019 19:15

How's it going? I'm about 80% through my quota now. Marked all the essays, but have some fairly subjective (for the scientist in me) markschemes left for my last questions Hmm
