Hello all! I need to give my gross salary to student finance and am struggling to know how to work that out. The P60 shows so many figures and googling hasn't helped. Does anyone have recent knowledge of how to work this out from your P60?

Does your normal pay slip not show your gross salary?

Piggywaspushed · 05/05/2019 14:38

No, it doesn't. And what with pay 'rises' etc it's no good multiplying by 12!

In the end, I found my April 2018 payslip which does show the full year's pay so all is solved.

Applying for student finance is a bloody nightmare.

You can use your annual tax statement summary thingy ( probably not called that ) the one sent out annually by the government .

You would think so! But it doesn't show pension stuff do still does not show gross salary.

Your P60 will always show the amount of salary that is 'taxable', and then the tax paid on that amount.

If you make contributions to a pension via salary sacrifice/exchange (and their may be other names for that in education) you will need to refer to other correspondence such as your March payslip - which will say 'Month 12' or something. That should show both a 'gross pay' and a 'gross pay for tax' - the difference being your pension.

Yes, I eventually found my March 2018 payslip. Amazed I still had it tbh, since we just cleared out our files!!

If you are no longer earning you need to fill out a “current year income” form so that you get more loan and/or grant.

I know... that's why I am looking for all this info. Nightmare.

I am still earning, mind. This is just about establishing household income.
