Are teachers paid for their holidays?

I’ve been teaching for 15 years. Today office staff and TAs were saying that teachers are paid for their holidays but they aren’t. It’s often cited on here that we are paid IN the holidays but not FOR the holidays and are only paid for our contracted 195 days. Does anyone know where I can find out if that’s actually the case online? I’ve looked at the burgundy book but I can’t see anywhere where it says either way and would like clarity one way or the other - mainly so I don’t spout incorrect information! Thanks for any help.

And as a TA I get paid in the holidays not for the holidays - not the case in all schools tho. For us it makes leaving in the school year very confusing re.pay.

For the posters asking about double salary in August, Teachers leaving at the end of term officially dont end their contract with the school until 31st August, so they would still be employed by the school and would have to declare it as a second job

I am a TA. I have a contract which pays me 25 hours a week for 44.4 weeks a year even though I only work 39 weeks. That is spread over 12 months. I believe that the teachers I work with are paid an annual salary spread over 12 months. So if someone gets £30k gross per annum that is divided by 12. However, what makes it unusual is this salary pays them for 190 teaching days, 5 non teaching days (insets) plus 5 or 6 weeks annual holiday. If the government suddenly decided to increase the number of teaching days per year to day 200 then teachers would need to have their pay increased to account for the extra 10 days they are expected to teach. Hope that makes sense.

I have never seen anything about that 5-6 weeks written down in the STPCD or anywhere else-do you have a link?

in the 12 + years that I have been on MN no-one has ever been able to produce a link because it doesn't exist.

Not always. Depends on their contract, I have a term time contract covering 39 weeks. It is written clearly on the job adverts, and on our contracts after getting a job

So if you are say a TA, do you always get your pay divided by 12 months so that you get paid for your working days in the holidays too? If not, what do they do in the holidays for money, they have to save it in preparation for weeks of no pay?
