I have seen a teaching job that I am thinking of applying for. The advert says MPS but I am on the Upper Pay Scale. Am I right I'm thinking the role is capped at M6?

Yes

Thank you for clarifying it.

Probably, but I'd email them and check.

My current job was advertised as MPS but they happily matched the UPS 3 I was on.

I also applied for a job advertised as MPS but they matched my UPS3. I don't think I've ever seen a job advertised as UPS - MPS usually means it's not leadership spine so MPS1-6 + UPS1-3.

Ooh thank you. That is really helpful. Most of the job adverts I have seen say MPS/UPS or 'Qualified Teachers' Pay Scale' so it just threw me!

If it's a permanent position in my experience your pay would be matched. If it is temporary then it is likely to be capped at main scale as chances are you are covering for someone either on maternity leave or covering for someone who is covering for someone on maternity leave.
Upper pay scale teachers are expected to take on additional responsibility as part of the application to move to the upper pay scale and a temporary role just might not require that so the school won't have it in the budget.
