Teaching in an academy

I'm currently looking for a new job and there is one really local to where I live but its an academy. Has anybody taught in an academy? What is it like and how is it different to an LA school? Thank you!

Depends. Is it part of a multi-academy trust? Or an independent academy? Or in a trust of a couple of schools? It will be different accordingly!

I do!
I think it’s very different if you are SLT etc but as a class teacher I’ve not really noticed a big difference.

It can greatly vary depending on the academy though!

I teach in a cooperative academy which I enjoy. Other colleagues came from other trusts and have had very difficult experiences.

Depends entirely on the academy.

Yes it's part of a multi-academy trust. It works very closely with another school who both share the same SLT. I think sometimes they move staff between the two schools.

Would you mind saying which trust?

monkeytoad35 · 11/02/2019 09:51

It's GLF.

As PP it depends on the sponsors/academy. Mine has only 1 secondary but a number of primaries so we as staff at my school don't really notice a lot as they have adopted the LA policies, however primary staff are often moved about due to staffing. They can't stand their ground so to speak as we are employed by the academy and not individual schools.

However, the stories fron some academies are horrifying as they have created their own policies....

No experience I’m afraid but bumping for you!
