Head and deputy - husband and wife

I'm a teacher in a junior school that is having difficulty recruiting a Head. We currently have an interim HT, who, after 2 failed attempts to recruit, has agreed to stay on for at least 18 months. His wife is the deputy head. I would be interested to hear from other teachers how they would feel about this. They are both lovely people and completely professional.

My DH was my head of department for a bit. It was fine...

He wasn’t my DH at the time, actually. But he was my boyfriend. He wasn’t allowed to do my lesson observations!

I know of a Primary school that had a married Head and Deputy for many years. It was a really difficult set-up for teachers and parents alike, as it felt like there was a 'closed shop' at the top end of the school. You couldn't talk to either in confidence, and they were both quite tricky anyway. Definitely an 'our way, or the highway' type of place. I suppose it depends on the couple!
