Going for an interview next week. Need to prepare for mixed ability year 7 lesson on percentages - new topic for them. Have had a look on Tes, but how much will I realistically be able to do with them in a 50 min session? Not my subject but have taught bits before. I know I will most probably overprepare!

I'm thinking I will have to recap what % means, do some basic percentage/fraction tasks but have enough for the high flyers to carry on with? Any advice as to how to make it exciting? So far thinking some fast paced small white board tasks, pair work with cards. Help!!!

It won't be a brand new topic for them - percentages are covered in Y5 and Y6 so it's probably best to look at the National Curriculum to see what the next step in their learning is in Y7. Begin with a recap of what they should already know, and then have a learning objective in mind for the main teaching of the session that addresses a Y7 NC requirement.

If it's not your subject what role/subject have you applied for? If it's not maths which I hope then being asked to teach this for an interview lesson is a huge red flag about the school and what you will be expected to do
