Just as the title says - what’s getting you down today / this week / this term?

Mine are:
A HoD who is refusing to help me take on more responsibility in case I somehow erode her role
Boredom with our current schemes of work and no ability to change them
Frustrated team members who are similarly looking for help / guidance and receiving none.

That’s quite cathartic, getting that all out!

Bad SMT are the root of so many problems. They bully and belittle and let some staff off with murder whilst destroying others. I am done. I will try to make it through next week but after twenty years I am broken. Not by the children nor the paperwork but by the nastiness of so called professionals who take pleasure at seeing others distressed. They hide their incompetence by making others feel worthless. No more. I am a broken woman. Two years ago I was enthusiastic, full of life and hope. Today I have spent the weekend in bed, cuddling a hot water bottle, crying. Sadly, I am sure they are proud of themselves. Rant over.

@Downbutnotoutyet I'm so sorry to hear that. Unfortunately I know the feeling all too well and I need to get out before it destroys me Sad

Downbutnotoutyet · 25/11/2018 20:34

It is so unfair isn’t it @millimat? (Sorry don’t know how to do bold.)
I just want to be treated like a human being. I just don’t understand what makes people want to hurt others. They must be very inadequate people at heart. My instinct is always to try and help others. I can’t imagine being any other way. I’m here if you want to talk more. Maybe we could open our own school and only work with nice people? Nice dream.

Downbutnotoutyet · 25/11/2018 20:35

Oh I did bold. How did that happen?

millimat · 25/11/2018 20:42

Haha!
I don't even think I want to work in a school any more.

Downbutnotoutyet · 25/11/2018 20:56

I am feeling the same but I graduated in 1990. I have no idea what else I could do. At fifty years old I’m too late to start another career. I have nothing else I can do and I’m not even sure I am any good at teaching anymore.

millimat · 25/11/2018 21:20

You could be me! I've looked at hlta roles on the theory is the nice stuff without all the horrible bits.
If my children were a bit older I'd do tutoring but at the moment I want to be around when children have tutors.

It was my daughter's birthday weekend so I didn't work. This was the first day off since the summer holidays. Last week I spent all my frees doing admin and sorting out inept staff. Next week I have no frees at all, after school detention duty directly followed by parents evening. I have to run year 11s after school because of said inept teachers. I have 4 sets of books to mark, 32 year 11 mocks to mark by Thursday, 2 classes of reports to write by tomorrow. Oh yeah, and I have not had a chance to plan any lessons yet.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 25/11/2018 21:42

Cover manager here. My lovely assistant (who had been sidelined into another job) has left and isn't being replaced. I'm not allowed to get supply, I'm doing 5 lessons of cover a day and minding pastoral support at lunch. Tomorrow I have 3 practical pe lessons (no, I'm not a pe teacher) outdoors. Mocks are on so can't use the gym. And yes, it's my job and I've been doing it for years, but it is filling me with dread.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 25/11/2018 21:44

I despise my HoD.

OneOfTheGrundys · 25/11/2018 21:49

Yes re slt.
Ours have told us they were outstanding for our mocksted thing and that teaching and learning was all ri! I don’t know how they got that if we’re all so dire!

tinytemper66 · 25/11/2018 22:10

Off for ten weeks due to an accident and my husband's sudden illness abroad! Was told on third day back that I needed to nip bad behaviour in the bud and that everyone else had been working hard doing my job!
Well if they had then the shocking behaviour I have picked up wouldn't been that bad!
Wish I had taken more time off to be honest!

Downbutnotoutyet · 25/11/2018 22:13

My SMT are so oblivious to the fact they are the cause of so many problems. Inconsistent approaches to everything, inability to follow through on anything, lack of awareness that they actually do need to make a decision at some point and when they do actually make a decision they forget five minutes later. They are so invisible in the school yet at the same time have you dancing in circles. We are mostly a genuine, hardworking decent group of people and they have no appreciation of that at all. They turn up late to meetings, or often don’t turn up at all. They are so rude it would be quite something to watch if you weren’t so often on the receiving end of it. My nerves and confidence are in tatters. Sorry, this is becoming more than a vent. It is almost therapeutic to get this off my chest. When I am able maybe I will be able to find somewhere I fit better. I can only hope.

It's not getting any better for me. A have observations this week and book scrutiny.

Y11 are doing mocks which all need to be marked and on the system before Christmas.

Everything seems to be so disorganised and nothing is progressing anywhere. HoD decides something and then a week or so later when work has already started, changes her mind about how it should be done. On particular thing has been changed 4 times!

Y11 still aren't revising either Sad

I'm honestly so fed up at the moment!

Alarice · 13/12/2018 15:28

Wanker line manager who has extended the no video policy to include Baz Luhrmann's fantastic 1995 version of Romeo and Juliet.

PumpkinPie2016 · 13/12/2018 18:37

We were told in a meeting yesterday to spend some time over the weekend entering data. Erm...that'll be a no.
