A Level lesson activities

Sitting here using the half term to try and get ahead and am driving myself mad...Anyone have some ideas for interesting activities/ tasks for a level lessons?

I’m teaching sociology to Year 12 and 13 and the amount of content we need to get through has been a shock! I try to jazz up the lessons with the odd video clip or quiz, but inevitably some part of the lesson requires them reading or taking notes. I’ve done a carousel a few times but, personally, I would’ve hated doing a carousel at 17/18. They do engage in debates but it tends to be the same people contributing.

Haven’t taught to an a level spec before, was BTEC before and 100% coursework based so had the luxury of being able to go off piste if something seemed to spark their interest. However, as I said, feeling far more time constrained teaching sociology so any advice or ideas would be very welcome.

Come and join us on the AQA A level Sociology Teachers group on Facebook. Loads of ideas there.

Can you set the reading and note taking as HW in advance of the lesson? That then means you can do far more interesting activities and tasks in the time you have them. I teach A level History and find this the best way to get through content. They need to be familiar with the basics pre-lesson - and I will then do a variety of tasks with them.
