Applying for new job

How do you approach your HT when you're going to apply for a job st a different school?
School is a frosty place at the moment and I know the fact I'm applying for another job will go down like a Lead balloon. I don't know how to approach my HT about it.

Any ideas or experiences?

Be breezy, hi just letting you know over applied for X position, and need time off for interview etc
