I’d like to know if you get enough work? I would need to be working at least 3 days per week for it to work out for me. Is this realistic?

Depends where you are. It can be all or nothing.

I used to do supply in a specialist environment. It was very rare that I did not have enough work and did a few part time maternity covers, paternity covers and long term sickness cover. However September was often quieter and February was my best month! You also have to factor in all the holidays especially the no pay in September. It became very stressful when we started to ‘need’ the money as dh was possibly being made redundant and I then went back part time. I loved supply before that!

I've found it's really dropped off in the last 12 months as more cuts have take effect. I expect it depends where you are based and which phase you're in.

This is my second year. I have not stopped working but I supply in both primary and secondary and am happy to TA/HLTA and cover supervise. If you want to only teach, you may work less and if you won’t consider maternity covers or long term absence which Involve marking to policy, parents evenings etc. If you are secondary shortage, it will be easier than primary but is has become clear to me that good supply - who will tidy up, improvise, mark, cover a duty without moaning, take a bottom set and hold their own - are not easy to come by.
