Primary school teaching...should I do it?!

I’m seriously considering doing the PGCE in the future.

I did nursing the first time around at uni and have a DipHe in Nursing. I’m currently doing an Open Uni English and Creative Writing BA.

Am I mad to consider doing the PGCE after this? I’ve worked in office admin type jobs for a few years and I’m sick of it. At the moment I’m working part time in a university library and doing the Beanstalk reading one morning a week which I really like.

I’m also studying the Level 3 Award in Education & Training at the local FE college and I’m aware that’s just for 16+ learners but I’m enjoying it.

All thoughts welcome! Smile

I don't think there is any substitute for getting into a school (or even better, a couple of different schools) and shadowing - either volunteering for 1/2 a day a week over a term or asking if you can shadow for a block of a week if you would have to take holiday.

Teaching itself, is great.
What most teachers will tell you is that the actual teaching is now such a small % of the working hours.
