New dress code

So, we have a new dress code, smart business! In principle I agree, however I teach a SN reception class...

Any ideas for where to get clothes? I need some bright colours, mostly trousers, smart but comfortable shoes I can run in if necessary! Also, not expensive, I will be spending a lot of time on the floor after all!

Supermarkets- particularly Tu- are quite good for this stuff.

My go to uniform is black skinny trousers (technically black skinny jeans ) and blouses from supermarkets or H&M. Then ballet shoes or ankle boots in the winter.

I would not be happy wearing a suit in early years! Very expensive to have to buy a new wardrobe too.
EBay for new or nearly new clothes?

My job involves quite a bit of Team Teach as well as being physical in other ways. I wear suit type trousers with some stretch in them and a non-restrictive blouse type top. However, I always, whatever the weather, wear a long vest underneath as this doesn't ride up regardless of what position I find myself in.

I wear soft Clarks boots.

Supermarkets, definitely. Possibly black treggings with coloured plain t-shirts and a jacket would work.

Depending how tall you are, Zara does inexpensive, washable suits, as do Sainsbury's etc. Absolutely ridiculous for a reception teacher though, IMO!

I work in a SN class and wear trousers with a slight stretch, and a shirt/blouse. Our dress code is relaxed so I wear converse trainers but used to wear slip on shoes at previous schools. I only wear supermarket clothes for school and find George at Asda good for cheap smart clothes. I wear a jumper as our class is always freezing but in previous years could have got away without.

I won’t be wearing a suit, not eye catching enough! I am restraint trained and will need to use that sometimes.

I think this policy may need adapting... I need to show willing though, at least to start with!

I often wear Tu clothes, they are good, I will look at their smarter range.

I think smart business is inappropriate for Reception. In our school, there is an official polo shirt, and matching fleece, which the EYFS staff wear with their choice of trousers.

For shoes, plain all black Skechers Go Walks are comfortable and perfect for all the running around and being on your feet. The soles are essentially trainers but they are just smart enough.

Matalan do some really good stretchy trousers (called "slim"). They look smart but are easy to move around in.

Can't you just go with smart trousers and a top, and have a jacket on the back of the chair to fling on for assemblies or whenever you are on show?

I would get some jackets/blazers to put over what you currently have. They don’t need to be expensive tu sainsbury and H&M are good for cheap ones.

M&S treggings. They need to say ‘treggings’ on the inter cardboard label but they are the stretchy-est trousers ever made and look really smart!

Who came up with this? Is this enforceable? Was your union involved in the new policy?

Oh bollocks to business dress. I'm assuming they're trying to eliminate things like flip flops really and it'll all go out of the window by half term.

Black (cheap) trousers, smartish top you can still move around in - job done. If you can score trousers with pockets to put all the random hair bobbles and interesting stones handed to you by small children - bonus.

It's bad enough having to do interview lessons trussed up like a fucking mini-executive without expecting people to teach early years full time in the same way.
