Is anyone else stepping down?

I am stepping down at the end of this term and moving schools. I feel sad that I've had to make this decision for my and my family's sake, but nervous and excited about being a classroom teacher again. I have been in my current place for a long, longtime.

Is anyone else stepping down?

I did it a year ago. Went from Head to Deputy (different school). Definitely a good decision. I’ve gone back to enjoying my job!

That's what I am hoping, fairport! Glad to hear it worked for you.

@Olivo what was your position before ? I stepped down from HOD 3 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. I was regularly working 70/80 hour weeks and I'd say now I'm a classroom teacher it's probably half that !!! The extra money for the TLR just was not worth it hour by hour!! It was honestly the best career move I ever made !!

I'm a HOY. On top of a ft timetable. There are just not enough hours in the day and my own DCs and DH are bearing the brunt.

Glad to hear another success story.

Best wishes, enjoy the holidays 😉

I stepped down from full time hod to 0.6 teacher and it has been a fantastic move. I just quietly get on with doing my job and make a point of not working on the two days I’m not paid. The only tricky bit was the pay cut but I think I have added 10 years into my life. I’m not joking.

So pleased to hear these positive stories. I had a bit of a wobble today ( far too late, I know!) but deep down, I know it is the right move.

I am moving schools and stepping down from HOD to 2ic. I’ve been at my current school a long time and I am pretty petrified of being “new” again but I’m excited that I might actually have time to plan and teach good lessons again!

Stepped down from hoy at Christmas (still have another tlr so the paydrop wasn’t a cliff edge) and have never been happier. I had to stop because of family crises so it wasn’t ideal, but I had done my bit. Good luck.

Sort of stepping down, from 2nd i/c to TLR holder only, but I have a feeling that I will enjoy my new job a whole lot more!

Good luck to everyone changing. I have been offer a subject related Responsibility which will help bridge the pay gap a little, but currently I believe you can't buy your sanity!

I did 3 years ago, now I teach p/t & the stress has pretty much disappeared & I have family time & do the school run some days. It's lovely!
