Supply teaching on mat leave

Just that really; I currently work as an education officer and part time supply teacher. I don't do enough supply teaching to qualify for 2 sets of statutory maternity pay (in my last mat leave I was still working in a perminant part time teaching roll too so I did qualify for 2 sets). Does anyone know if I can do some supply work while on mat leave since I won't be receiving any mat leave pay from my teaching employer? Thanks!

Perhaps try posting in legal.

It will depend if you get more than statutory I think.

Saying that, I did exam marking while on mat leave as a teacher.

You can work but only if You are not in receipt of statutory maternity pay or maternity allowance

Thanks for your responses. @newcupcake I will get statutory pay but not from my teaching employer; only from my other one. I was hoping to suppliment it by supply teaching too. In my last mat leave, because I worked above the required threshold in both jobs I received two sets of statutory mat pay, one from each employer. My husband is self employed and his income is unreliable so I need to try to bring in as much as possible. Even with double mat pay we really struggled last time because we had a long hospital stay with a very prem baby and he needed to take time off for opperations and bad weather

I don't think double statutory mat pay is legal tbh! It sounds like you got lucky last time or the rules have changed.

Prembabymum · 04/07/2018 22:04

Its definitely legal; I investigated it loads beforehand

Wow I did not know that. So you'd be better off in 2 jobs than 1 maternity pay wise. That's insane. I can't believe that!

Anyway the above link should answer your question. I think you're fine to work.

Thats really helpful, thanks so much! Yeah, its a useful situation that I only looked into because of my situation last time. In all other ways having 2 jobs is a total headache so I'm glad there's at least one benefit!

That's a huge benefit. You literally get double the money!! I hope it works out for you. Don't forget to check I'd you'll be entitled to other benefits.

Not sure how your supply teaching works are you employed or self employed?

I was told that while on mat leave I can't work anything more than 10 keeping in touch days otherwise my statutory maternity pay will end.

But I can do self employed work without losing maternity pay.
