I recently passed my PGCE. I have an NQT position starting in September. This school have asked me to start early as an unqualified teacher, I'll be paid over the summer. I've been at the school two weeks and...... No one has checked to see what I'm teaching, no one has visited me in my classroom, no one from SLT has spoken to me, my Hod is off on long term sick and not due back till September, I haven't signed a contract yet for either the NQT or unqualified position, nor have I had my bank details taken, no one has told me any of the policies etc. behaviour at the school is absolutely appalling - think kids running around corridors in and out of classrooms, swearing and shouting at staffetc. When you call for on call to come and remove pupils from your classroom they don't turn up, sanctions are not followed through and the kids know they won't be . Staff morale is zero. Staff are leaving in droves. My classes have had a variety of supply teachers since Feb half term, often pupils will have supply teachers for 4 out of 5 lessons.
I don't know what to do, jump ship quickly and try and find another position or stay?

Just thought I'd update my thread. I have given my situation a great deal of thought and have come to the decision to leave my current school. I couldn't cope with the lack of support from SLT and I simply do not want to work anywhere where abuse and actual violence (shoving and being spat at) is seen as something to accept from the students.
So I was lucky enough to hear of a job coming up at a different school, I made enquiries and I start in September! The difference between the two schools is amazing and I'm really looking forward to starting my NQT year there in September.
Thanks to everyone who gave me fantastic advice, it really is appreciated! 😀

Congratulations on your new job!

How did your original school take it?

MissMarplesKnitting · 27/07/2018 12:10

That's great. A supportive school will be exactly what you need, NQT year is tough enough without dealing with all that!!

I'm a humanities teacher fairly nearby o you, shout if you need anything!

@noblegiraffe..... They said.... 'thanks for letting us know'.
That's it! Not another word, didn't even ask why I was leaving. I was more upset than they were as I felt I was letting everyone down.
@MissMarplesKnitting will definitely shout if I need anything.

Wow, definitely shows you’ve made the right decision. Not even any attempt to get you to stay. That makes it easier!
