Primary conversion to academy

(Disclaimer: I am a Governor so not a teacher)
I was wondering if any teachers here have experience of working in a primary school which has converted to an academy. We are keeping a weather eye on conversion and I would be interested in anyone’s experience - appreciate all academies are different.

We are a very small school with a fairly hopeless local authority, but we have a good strong Head and I am struggling to see what an Academy will offer us. I am not convinced by possible academies round here - the Diocese one has had more than half of its schools downgraded to RI or Special Measures since October 2015, and the secondary that we are a feeder too isn’t particularly inspiring. I don’t think we’d be better off financially.

As staff, do you get any benefits from being part of an academy that you didn’t have as a LA school? More/less freedom? Anything else Governors need to know? Feels like a massive decision and we don’t want to get it wrongSad
