Leaving teaching - holiday pay?

I'm currently applying for jobs outside of teaching. I'd ideally leave at the end of summer term so that I'd get paid for the summer holidays. If I got permission to leave at May half term would I get any sort of holiday pay?

If I did stay til the end of term, would I be able to start another job during the summer holidays while technically still employed by the school?

You have to give half a terms notice to be handed in to head teacher by certain date. If you leave at end of May you should already have handed in notice to head teacher. You will be paid for the May half term and that is all. If you hand notice in last day before May half term you would work out notice until end of term and leave in July to leave you will be paid up until end of August. This arrangement is cleared with unions and is the same for all teachers on a permanent contract all over the country. If you are employed through an agency or temping you give one months notice and pay stops when you leave work.

There is no statutory right to leave at May half term. The only leaving dates are at the end of March, end of August and end of December. The notice period is a minimum of half a term. Governors may grant permission to leave at other times, but it would be at their discretion.

I left a job at May half term because of family circumstances (handed in my notice before Feb half term though!) and I didn't get any pay beyond 31st May.

Teachers are only paid for 5.6 weeks holiday a teacher. The legal minimum.

I left in Feb half term but I was on probation so only needed 4 weeks notice.

If you mean you'll hand in your resignation in May and put your end date as August 31st, yes you'll be paid until August 31st. You'd obviously have to work up until the summer holidays.

I'm not sure whether you can start a new job mid-August. I can't see why not... Tax might be complicated though.
