Any geography teachers about?

Hi, I start my pgce in geography in Sept and wondered whether anyone here taught geography and what they think of the subject from a teaching point of view?
Do the kids enjoy the lessons generally? What’s the work load/marking:planning like?

Thanks

I love teaching geography. There are so many variations on what to teach. I really like being able to adapt to current events like extreme weather. The downside to that is you need to plan more. The current GCSEs are very content heavy and marking them can be tricky.

I’m not a teacher, but I loved it so much I ended up doing a degree in it.

I’ve been teaching geog for 12 years. It’s a marmite subject really. But once they’ve picked it in year 11 it’s nice to teach as the kids want to be there. Also, the CW and NEA workload is heavy. We do a LOT of trips so lots of late evenings or being away from home. I wouldn’t say it’s any harder to teach than other subjects though.

Thanks for your replies. It’s great to hear from people teaching the subject.
I currently work in a field studies centre so have an idea of how the field work and trips are organised.

I did wonder what the planning and making of resources will be like.
