Displays in KS1

I got a rather snotty email from SLT about my Science and Topic displays today. Apparently, not all of them have chn's work, key questions or vocab and they have to be improved by Monday and of the standard expected by Wednesday. They are, however, engaging, have vocab and challenge questions underneath.....
I stay until 6pm every night to make sure that the books are marked, resources are created and data is up to date (don't get me started...) I don't have time to do an all singing and all dancing display and I'm ambivalent as to whether they are worthwhile or just wall paper...
I'll photocopy some work and whack it up on Monday but it got me wondering, does anyone else's school have a massive focus on displays and if so, do you do the or do you leave them to your TA (as Workload directive says we should)? I'm year 1.

Sounds like you work with an SLT with too much time on their hands and an over-inflated sense of their own importance (and a misguided view of the value of displays for 5-6 year old children!).

Certainly have your TAs do it if you can. It’s important to have every child’s work up in the room - but not in every display. There’s not enough room usually!

Add the bare minimum to meet requirements if you have to. Otherwise, asks what they would like you not to do in order to make time for this task.

Have your TA do the displays, but with a checklist. TBH, their demands are pretty standard for any display. I often add speech/thought bubbles and photos of the children engaged in activities as part of the ‘children’s work’ requirement.

Tell them you can certainly do it, and ask what other work you should give up in order to complete the displays to their required standard.

Tbh I'm not at all convinced that displays are useful for learning.

Sounds like my school. No TAs available for displays either. Add student voice with speech bubbles. I hate displays that are perfect and show no student work though

I’m a parent and on the rare occasion I drop my child into her year 1 classroom (we are encouraged to leave them at the front door and they make their own way down the corridor) I am always amazed at the wonderful displays but also think WHY are the staff “wasting” so much time on them. I’m quite sure my 5 year old doesn’t read them or notice them even. they are lovely tho but nobody gets to see them.

This is why I could never work in primary!

It is for ofsted and visitors. Kids don’t look at them. Our SLT are fastidious about double boardering and there is a display policy with do/don’t points. Bloody nuts.

Urgh god how annoying. Displays are such a waste of time. I keep mine as useful and permanent as possible. Your SLT sound ridiculous.
