AIBU to be pissed off that someone is charging for a version of my resource?

Hi
I’m in two minds as to if I should kick up a massive fuss to TES or not. I created a resource in 2015 and tweeted it, plus uploaded it toTES for free. I tweeted it to someone just over a year ago with a large following (and my FREE TES link!) and they retweeted it, people loved it and started stealing my image and claiming it was theirs. Whatever, time passes and I’ve just noticed that someone has created the exact same resource and given it a pretty background and uploaded it on TES for £3 - 300 odd downloads. I am seething that someone can profit from stealing someone else’s idea but also that the cheeky fucker is charging teachers for a resource in the first place!
Do I deep breathe and get over myself or kick up merry shit?

Have you rated it and commented - '0 stars, you stole this' ? Is there anyway to report it ?

SarahMused · 16/03/2018 21:30

The same has happened to other teachers. Report to TES and get it taken down.

HolidayHelpPlease · 16/03/2018 21:33

I don’t know if I should just because it’s not a direct reupload - they’ve changed the background but all the wording is the same. I’ve tweeted TES but they are crap, you have to kick off big time to get stuff removed.

You must comment on it

HolidayHelpPlease · 16/03/2018 22:01

Anasnake - I will do, it’s nice to know I’m not just being unreasonable - thank you Smile

I think it’s disgraceful that they are charging for resources now.
We should be helping each other, not profiting out of each other.
I try to upload stuff for free as and when I have time. The more people who do that, the more the CFs lose out!

You automatically create a copyright when you post on the Internet. Check with a lawyer.

Appuskidu · 16/03/2018 23:41

Comment on the resource and keep emailing TES.

BlessYourCottonSocks · 18/03/2018 00:10

Can you comment 'you stole this from me and I posted it for free' and then link to your free resource?

pestilentialboundary · 18/03/2018 00:14

Original version available for free [link]

In the comments section, half a dozen times, should do it.

mojito55 · 18/03/2018 00:16

What counterpoint said. You may be able to sue them for the amount they made off your resource.

BoneyBackJefferson · 18/03/2018 21:11

kick up a merry shit, get it taken down.

I know many teachers that this has happened to.

HolidayHelpPlease · 19/03/2018 18:55

Thank you to all who replied - they’ve emailed me to say they’ve taken it down Flowers
How cheeky would it be to ask them to donate the profit to charity as they’ve profited from copyright infringement? Grin

Not cheeky at all - but I wouldn't believe a word the lying bugger said!

juliej00ls · 19/03/2018 19:32

I would put a link to the original free version and contact the creator directly asking for reasonable finiacial compensation making it clear I would persue the matter further. Whether I did or not would be another matter but it’s worth a shot. Cheeky

I really dislike the paying element anyway. It is such a shame they changed it. Yes kick up a fuss.
