Calling SENCOs

Hello,
I am passionate about becoming a secondary SENCO in the future.
A job has come up in my school but I feel reluctant to apply because I don’t have any relevant qualifications or actual experience in ‘Senco work’.
I have been teaching for the last 16 years and I am experienced in working with students who have a variety of SEN. I also have a DS who has special needs. We are going through the application process for an EHCP.
In order to show I am serious about the role and for my own benefit, i’m wondering if anyone can recommend some online courses, further reading and insights into the kind of questions I could expect in an interview (if I even get that far)?

Just qualified with distance course at Wolverhampton University through SERCO training. Qualification is about promoting inclusion. Good luck

The council for disabled children do online training modules here which are free - there are some on the send reforms, ehc plans, annual reviews etc. The don't take long to do and you could mention at interview that you have completed them. If you are working in a school you have to complete the senco qualification but you don't currently need this to be a senco in FE.

Well if you do get please treat the staff who know the children with some respect! And have meetings, and stop saying 'Oh they're SEN' ( no his names David/Mark etc)

Why on earth would I do that greentulips?
I think you need to take up your gripes with the person who is actually upsetting you rather than posting on a random thread asking for some help!! Confused

Where did that come from Tulips? Certainly not from OP's post.
